Are you passionate about public service and skilled in technical accounting? The Controllership Policy and Accounting Consultation Branch is looking for motivated professionals to help tackle complex accounting issues and provide expert advice to senior leaders across government. In this role, you'll help shape accounting policy and support sound financial management across the Ontario Public Service.

The Treasury Board Secretariat leads government-wide efforts in financial and human resource management. It sets policies, oversees spending, and drives transformation across the Ontario Public Service.

About the job

What You'll Do:

  • Develop briefing materials and provide expert advice on complex accounting policies.
  • Advise senior leaders on applying Public Sector Accounting Standards to new programs.
  • Stay current on accounting standards and keep leadership informed of key updates.
  • Research accounting practices in other jurisdictions and recommend policy changes.
  • Review proposals to assess accounting impacts and support sound financial reporting.
  • Lead accounting projects for the Province, including the implementation of new accounting standards.
  • Collaborate across government to support planning, budgeting, and policy initiatives.

What you bring to the team

Financial and Accounting Knowledge

You have:

  • Expert knowledge of financial and accounting principles, supported by a professional accounting designation.
  • Specialized understanding of PSAB standards, consolidation, and accrual accounting.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with experience reviewing publications from PSAB and IASB.
  • The ability to collaborate with professionals and senior leaders across ministries to solve complex accounting policy issues.

Experience developing accounting policies, procedures, and guidelines in a corporate or government setting.

Research and Analytical Skills

You can:

  • Provide expert accounting policy advice and conduct in-depth research on best practices across jurisdictions.
  • Assess new programs and initiatives to identify financial and accounting impacts on the fiscal plan and financial statements.
  • Use sound judgment to manage multiple projects and handle sensitive information effectively.

Communication and Presentation Skills

You have:

  • Clear communication skills to explain analysis and recommendations to senior leaders and staff.
  • Experience preparing presentations, reports, and financial documents.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues across government and other jurisdictions.
  • Negotiation skills to help resolve complex accounting issues.

Project Management and Computer Skills

You have:

  • Proven ability to manage projects and resolve complex issues.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
