The Security Administrator maintains and supports the University’s Cybersecurity Infrastructure, including Identity and Access Management, Security Operations Center (SOC), Incident and Vulnerability Management as well as assist in planning and implementing related projects. The Security Administrator is responsible for providing Tier 3 technical support to all members of the University and provides backup support for other functions in Information Technology Services as needed.

Typical Duties Include:

Maintains, monitors and provides technical support for various services, such as SOC Management, cybersecurity systems (such as Azure/Entra Purview, PAM Solutions, EDR/XDR, etc.), and services within IT environment.

Coordinates the implementation of cybersecurity configuration guidelines by various ITS teams and ensures remediation by reviewing the status in various auditing tools.
-
Ensures the security and integrity of information systems, communication channels, and data, including confidential and sensitive information. Implements controls related to spam, phishing, unauthorized access to servers and systems, firewalls, user accounts, domain administration and potential security vulnerabilities.

Monitors security related logs and responds to identified issues. In collaboration with the Security Analyst, reviews and actions system alerts. Manages the provisioning of accounts on selected systems.

Supports the core infrastructure security components including security solutions for servers, network storage, backup and recovery, firewalls, etc.

Monitors network, server, and system vulnerabilities and availability and proactively responds to issues that are identified. Runs and reviews vulnerability scans, recommends remediation strategy and coordinates the remediation in consultation with the Security Analyst.

Supports the configuration and administration of cybersecurity services, including privilege access management systems, identity and directory systems, as well as various integration middleware.

Working collaboratively with others in ITS helps plan the future capacity requirements for the cybersecurity and identity infrastructure, and provides input to the annual budgeting process in this regard.

Develops and improves processes and tools for system security, identity and monitoring of cybersecurity infrastructure. Monitors compliance with ECU information security standards, policies and procedures by the college community and suggest the Security Analyst and the Associate Director, Information Security, of the confirmed violations and deviations to ensure compliance.

Collaborates with the IT Service Desk to provide timely Tier 3 support on cybersecurity and identity management issues and other technical matters.

Assists in data migrations, validations, and error tracking, Identity integrity, IDM issues, etc.

Provides informal coaching and guidance to junior ITS staff (e.g., Tier 1/2 analysts or Service Desk technicians), as appropriate, to support knowledge transfer.

Assists in the development and implementation of Cybersecurity roadmap and its related projects
-
Acts in a backup capacity during the absence of other cybersecurity personnel.

Maintains documentation for area issues.
-
Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
-
Minimum five years’ experience in a combination of cybersecurity, network and system administration in Linux and Windows environments.
-
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
-
Cybersecurity or network security certification (e.g., CISSP, Security+, CCNA, Microsoft Security, Azure Security) or equivalent demonstrated experience is preferred.
-
Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Linux with Virtual environments, such as OpenStack or HyperV.
-
Knowledge of IT security best practices, standards, processes and tools.
-
Experience with managing Microsoft and MySQL databases (on prem and cloud).
-
Demonstrated knowledge of Linux and Windows server configuration and maintenance.
-
Scripting experience with PowerShell, PHP, Python, Perl, or Bash.
-
Experience with Identity and Access Management Tools, middleware and integration automation solutions.
-
In depth knowledge of Internet technologies (Encryption, Enterprise Cloud, DNS, Firewalls, Penteration Testing.).
-
Knowledge of network segmentation and security, (VLANS, SASE, NAC, ISE) and common cybersecurity services (e.g. SOC, Arctic Wolf, EDR/XDR).
-
Experience with security and identity management fundamentals such as Role Based Access, Least Privilege, Just in time access, Entra Directory Management with Multi Factor Authentication, as well as Privileged Access Management solutions, etc.

Experience with Vulnerability Management and Remediation (i.e. Arctic Wolf Risk Management, Nessus scans, Nmap, and Fail2ban) is an asset.

Experience working in an ITIL-based service environment is an asset.

Proven abilities in IT cybersecurity system design.

Proven system and security diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
-
Familiarity with intrusion detection, DLP, and SIEM tools.

Excellent technical writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
-
Proven threat hunting skills with the ability to identify, plan, and resolve threats.

Ability to work with considerable independence as well as working productively and supportively in a team environment.

Ability to keep current in the area of expertise.

Ability to prioritize work between project assignments and support issues.
