SCOPE:

As a key member of the City's Illegal Construction Enforcement Team (ICET), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of building compliance and community safety. Through the innovative Car 57 Pilot Program, you'll be at the forefront of reducing inspection backlogs, streamlining enforcement processes, and delivering exceptional service to residents and stakeholders. By joining ICET, you'll not only help modernize inspection practices but also make a direct and lasting impact on community development and safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical advice, assistance, interpretation and information to the general public, contractors, owners, and registered professionals on matters related to work.
  • Read and interpret building plans.
  • Suggest alternate methods of complying with codes, regulations and requirements where difficult situations arise.
  • Write reports and correspondence on issues including but not limited to inspections, complaints and investigations
  • Post Stop Work Notices on non-compliant properties as required.
  • Answer counter and telephone enquiries, including complaints.
  • Other job-related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completed Grade 12 supplemented by a post-secondary diploma or certificate in Building Technology or related discipline.
  • At least three years' experience in building trades.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
  • Technical achievement of the Level I Certification from the Building Officials Association of BC.
  • Provincial Red Seal Carpentry Qualification is considered an asset.
  • Level II or III Certification is considered an asset.
  • Training and experience in municipal bylaw enforcement is considered an asset.
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey information to the public, professionals and other staff.
  • Computer literacy and excellent interpersonal skills are required.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license.
  • This position requires walking, lifting, use of ladders, physical labour, and may be outdoor in all weather conditions.
