About the role

SunCu Financial Services Inc., the Sunshine Coast Credit Union’s wealth management subsidiary located in Sechelt, BC is seeking an Associate Investment Advisor to join a successful Advisory Team. The Associate Investment Advisor (AIA) plays a key role in supporting the Portfolio Manager by delivering advice and planning that aligns with their strategic goals. This includes active involvement in client relationship management and business development to help grow assets and convert prospects into clients. Additionally, the AIA provides dedicated investment support to specific client accounts within the Portfolio Manager’s book of business.

What will you do?

  • Build trusting, effective relationships with clients by proactively identifying their needs and providing sound advice and solutions to achieve their financial goals.
  • Respond to client account inquiries and remain accountable to follow-up, as required.
  • Identify and execute opportunities among existing client base for asset consolidation, transition to model portfolios, etc.
  • Co-manage client acquisition pipeline (prospects / leads); work with advisory team to close new opportunities.
  • Deepen existing relationships with Centers of Influence (COIs) through ongoing management.
  • Trading and / or Portfolio Rebalancing
  • Stay current on industry issues and adhere to company security, operational policies, procedures as well as industry and legislative regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for approval as a Registered Representative (RR) with CIRO
  • Canadian Securities Course (CSC)
  • Conduct and Practices Handbook (CPH)
  • Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation or willingness to achieve designation within 1 year.
  • Insurance licensed (LLQP) or willingness to do so within 3 years
  • A self-directed individual with a growth and goals-oriented mindset
  • Knowledge of financial products and services such as mutual funds, securities, bonds, ETFs, Alternatives, life insurance, etc.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • 4 years or more of professional experience within investment industry
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong problem solving and analytical skills

Previous credit union experience would be considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered as well as other relevant working experience. 

This position requires an individual with strong analytical, organizational and communication skills and a strong attention to detail. The incumbent will be self-motivated and have excellent administrative, time management, problem solving and prioritizing skills.
