Job Specific Information**:**
Should this temporary vacancy be filled by a regular full-time employee, seniority and benefits will continue in the normal manner and the regular employee will continue to maintain normal, full-time status for the duration of the appointment.
If it becomes known that the position is permanent, it will be reposted and filled in the normal fashion.
Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Manager Billing & Collection Services, responds to customer inquiries and concerns and performs tax billing functions and general clerical duties.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides front line in person and call center customer support, resolving Tier 1 inquiries; refers Tier 2 inquiries to appropriate staff, in responding to tax and water inquiries.
- Performs cash balancing, processing, and reconciling.
- Researches misapplied payments, issues refunds, and performs financial adjustments as required.
- Issues tax and water certificates and invoices accordingly.
- Maintains electronic payment programs for preauthorized, mortgage, and e-post applications within the taxation billing and receivable system.
- Maintains revenue billing and receivable systems for address changes, ownership changes and work orders.
- Prepares journal entries and reconciles respective general ledger accounts.
- Liaises with City departments and outside bodies as required.
- Perform general office and other related duties, including vacation relief for Water Clerks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
- Secondary school graduation; and
- Post-secondary courses in accounting, or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated skill in communication, both written and oral is essential
- Must be able to converse with the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Must be at a basic skill level in word processing and an intermediate skill level in spreadsheet software and must possess basic on-line data entry skills
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
