About the role
Description
The Accounting Manager will lead our accounting and tax functions, driving operational excellence, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring full compliance with Canadian regulatory requirements. This role partners closely with senior leadership and plays a key role in delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial information to support strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Closing Process
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
- Review consolidation reports and ensure completeness and consistency
General Accounting & Compliance
- Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal accounting policies
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial records
Audit & Internal Controls
- Coordinate quarterly reviews and annual external audits, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met
- Prepare and maintain audit documentation; proactively address and resolve audit findings
- Design, implement, and continuously improve internal controls to mitigate risk and ensure compliance
Taxation
- Oversee corporate income tax, sales tax, excise tax, and other applicable regulatory filings
- Ensure full compliance with Canadian tax regulations, including accurate and timely submissions
- Collaborate with external tax advisors on complex tax matters, planning, and compliance
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members to support high performance and career growth
- Delegate tasks effectively and review deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the team
Process Improvement & Projects
- Identify opportunities to enhance processes, systems, and controls to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Lead or support cross-functional initiatives and special projects aligned with business objectives
Skills / Knowledge / Experience / Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA) required.
- Minimum of 12–15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2–3 years leading a team.
- Strong research, financial modeling and analytical skills.
- Experience working closely with senior leaders and influencing decisions.
- Solid understanding of IFRS
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian taxation.
- Advanced Excel skills: including financial modeling and use of advanced formulas, charting, and pivot tables.
- Strong communication skills, comfortable explaining financials to non-finance partners.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to connect financial results to operational drivers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Results Oriented and Critical Thinking skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- SAP experience is an asset.
- Salary range: $87,000 - $129,105
