As the Senior Engineer, Metering Quality Assurance, you set the standard for metering excellence at ENMAX. In this role, maintaining, updating, and enforcing the Metering Standard ensures safe, compliant operations for today and tomorrow. Leading continuous improvements in our Quality Assurance program and partnering with Measurement Canada upholds accreditation and compliance. Guidance of the AMI Program, from planning and design to procurement and technical escalations, places you at the center of innovation and reliability
Major Responsibilities:
- Maintain and govern Metering Standard and equipment specifications for grid interconnection, including DER operations
- Review, update, and approve changes to metering standards for emerging DER technologies (EV charging, batteries, heat pumps)
- Collaborate with Customer Projects to review and approve metering systems for various customer types
- Serve as initial point of contact and liaison for system planning, protection, and controls
- Provide technical guidance, performance monitoring, and data reporting for DER team activities
- Manage standards development, regulatory adherence, and stakeholder feedback
- Govern Meter Shop processes to ensure compliance with Measurement Canada’s accreditation
- Define new metering technologies and propose annual metering capital budget
- Engage with AUC, AESO, CEA, and Measurement Canada technical working groups
- Monitor and implement changes in accordance with regulatory and legislative requirements
- Evaluate metering practices for regulatory filings and respond to AESO/AUC information requests
- Develop construction standards and technical bulletins for stakeholders and contractors
- Oversee substation metering standards and ensure compliance with AESO and Measurement Canada
- Manage Quality Assurance Program, conduct inspections, and oversee corrective actions
- Support AMI Project as Technical Lead, including experimental lab design and data analytics
- Provide metering services for external utilities and support government audits
Education Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
- P.Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA), in good standing
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of related utility experience
- Knowledge of Electrical Power Distribution Systems, codes, regulations, work practices, and safety
- Knowledge of wireless communication and radio frequency standards (asset)
- Strong understanding of Alberta electrical regulatory environment (Settlement System Code, Measurement Canada, CEA, Electricity and Gas Inspection Act, Tariff Bill Code, EPC’s Terms and Conditions)
- Good knowledge of metering, metering data, infrastructure, and radio technologies
- Strong understanding of IT systems and data collection systems
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Thorough understanding of MS Office Suite, RMS, Maximo, VEE, Itron, and Honeywell Metering applications
Competencies:
- Strong understanding of the business and environment
- Adaptability and ability to implement innovative technologies and drive continuous improvement
- Advanced problem solving, strategic thinking, decision making, and planning skills
- Exceptional time management and stakeholder
- Strong facilitation skills for cross-functional teams
