As a new Director of Recreation joining our village, you will:
Support and embrace our resident-centered social culture and be proud to deliver the highest quality of recreation services to our residents.
Our Directors of Recreation at Schlegel Villages plan, implement and oversee programs with the recreation team that contribute to a resident’s holistic health care goals, as outlined in Care Plans, by encouraging physical, emotional, spiritual, social and cognitive growth for residents.
Directors of Recreation regularly audit and evaluate documentation capturing residents’ participation, engagement and holistic wellbeing to identify where program can be improved and support the development of recreational program to meet the needs of our residents as individuals. Our Directors of Recreation lead and support a team of Recreation Team Members with hands-on training, coaching and supervision and is responsible for shift scheduling, department spending and budget, and collaboration with the Village’s cross-functional leadership team to lead and support a holistic approach to recreational programming. They also build and manage our volunteer team members and individual resident leisure needs.
To be successful as our new Director of Recreation, you will:
- Hold a diploma or degree recreation/leisure studies and/or gerontology from a community college or university
- Have previous leadership experience
- Respect the rights and dignity of all residents, families, team members and visitors to the village and addresses any requests with professionalism and care
It would be an asset if our new Director of Recreation, has:
- Knowledge of the five domains in Therapeutic Recreation that contribute to an individual’s health
- Knowledge of recreational therapy practices, methods, techniques and opportunities to improve resident’s wellbeing and holistic health
- Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, legislation, regulations and best practices applicable to Retirement Home care sector (e.g. Long Term Care Act, 2007, RHRA act and standards, supplies, equipment ordering, etc.)
