We are a small team of social scientists who undertake strategic and operational research and business analytics to position, inform, and shape how people think about, use, and support Canada’s national parks and national historic sites. Our areas of work include visitor and audience research and analytics, performance measurement, and economic analysis. We are seeking a conservation-oriented (ecological) socioeconomist to join our team to build on a history of applying socio-economics at Parks Canada. Reporting to the Chief Social Scientist, you will:

  • Be responsible for conducting, supporting, and advising on a range of initiatives that are at the intersection of socioeconomics, protected heritage (nature and culture/history), and government accountability.

  • Conduct and provide support/advice to clients on economic approaches, methods and tools. Areas may include impact analysis (e.g., tourism, program investments), economic lift (e.g. heritage assets), cost-benefit analysis (e.g. regulatory and establishment initiatives), ecosystem service/natural capital accounting, and benefits of conservation (natural and cultural).

  • Prepare and disseminate relevant economic information, ensuring timely and consumable information to inform decision-making.

  • Work within the structures, policies and demands of government and protected heritage areas.

Note: This is not an accounting, banking, audit, financial or policy type economic position, nor is it an academic or primary research type position with a focus on peer reviewed publishing.
