Reporting to: Production Training Excellence Lead

Location: Kitimat

About the Role

Reporting to the Production Training Excellence Lead, the HSSE trainer will, implement HSSE standards by initiating, developing, and execution of training and programs to build capability and improve organizational effectiveness and efficiency in line with the LNGC Safety aspiration for the asset team and contractors.

 

To succeed with us in Training team, we need your enthusiasm to

  • Experience delivering safety/HSSE training to frontline work groups (classroom, virtual, and/or field settings).

  • Working knowledge of HSSE management systems, safe work practices, and risk controls relevant to the role’s operational environment.

  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and communication skills with the ability to influence safe behaviours.

  • Ability to collaborate with HSSE SMEs and L&D/instructional design partners to create and improve learning resources.

  • Ability to plan and organize training schedules, maintain records, and use an LMS or similar tracking system 

 

You will use your expertise to

  • Demonstrate strong business acumen including legislation, WorkSafe BC, policy and business objectives to align training to business goals.
  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices and techniques of learning and development, particularly in the context of Safety, adult learners and workplace development.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to provide consultation, advice and technical training expertise to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills to deal with obstacles during program development and implementation.
  • Strong and fit for purpose change management strategies.

Training Delivery & Facilitation

  • Deliver HSSE training programs (classroom, blended, and field based)
  • Facilitate site inductions, refresher sessions, and commissioning specific HSSE briefings as required
  • Support supervisors and leaders with toolbox talk content and structured safety conversations.
  • Adapt training materials based on operational phase (construction, commissioning and startup,
  • steady state operations, turnaround).

Learning Compliance & Records Management

  • Track HSSE training completion, validity, and recertification requirements.
  • Identify training noncompliance and support corrective action planning.
  • Provide training support for HSSE leadership for campaigns and quick win/LFI
  • Ensure HSSE training requirements campaigns are effective and completed

Support Plant safety

  • Deliver Operations and commissioning specific HSSE training
  • (e.g., Confine space, Fall Protection, H2S Alive, Permit To Work , Safe Isolations, Gas testing,
  • Elevating Work Platform, etc ).
  • Work with operations and competency teams to address HSSE training gaps.
  • Ensure HSSE training meets applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

Contractor Training & Compliance

  • Verify contractor HSSE training and induction requirements are met prior to site access.
  • Conduct onboarding /orientation for contractors
  • Coordinate contractor compliance with site HSSE training expectations.
  • Support alignment of contractor HSSE training with site standards.
  • Identify and escalate contractor training noncompliance.

HSSE Culture, Incident, Audit & Learning Integration

  • Translate incident investigations, audit findings, and lessons learned into HSSE training updates.
  • Support leadership capability in communicating HSSE expectations.
  • Support continuous improvement of HSSE training based on operational feedback
  • from Shift Trainers
  • and Others
  • Promote a positive safety culture through consistent HSSE learning reinforcement.

 Perform other duties as assigned.

 

To be successful, you will have

  •  A minimum of 5 years of oil and gas experience with a minimum of 3 years of training experience
  • Adult learning or training certification (e.g., Train-the-Trainer) and/or instructional design exposure.
  • Recognized safety credentials (e.g., CRSP, NCSO, NEBOSH, IOSH) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience as a qualified assessor/competency assessor for HSSE programs.
  • Experience supporting contractor onboarding and compliance training.
  • Experience coaching leaders in observation/field leadership programs (e.g., Visual Safety Leadership)
