**Location -**This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

The Lead, Clinical Governance & Digital Innovation provides leadership for clinical governance structures and digital systems supporting academic teaching clinics, helping ensure alignment of operational standards, governance processes, and digital tools across sites.

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of the world’s top academic health science centres. With 21 departments, multiple research institutes and centres, and a focus on excellence in education, research, and clinical care, the faculty trains outstanding medical and dental professionals and drives global health innovation in collaboration with partners across sectors.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supporting development and maintenance of academic teaching site standards
  • Promoting governance alignment across academic teaching clinics
  • Advancing digital tools that support academic clinical environments
  • Supporting operational standards across teaching sites

Governance Roles

  • Chair, Site Directors Management Group
  • Board Director, NAPCAC (consideration for executive role on NAPCAC Board)
  • Participation in cARP governance discussions as appropriate

Examples of Work

  • Teaching clinic governance frameworks
  • Digital dashboards for clinic performance
  • EMR tools supporting teaching and evaluation
  • Operational standards across academic teaching sites

Focus

  • Clinical governance, systems alignment, and digital innovation

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) with certification in Family Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (or equivalent)
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
  • Active clinical practice in family medicine, ideally within a community and/or academic teaching environment
  • Demonstrated experience in undergraduate and/or postgraduate medical education
  • Experience working in or with academic teaching clinics affiliated with a university (e.g., University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry or similar)
  • Proven leadership experience in clinical, academic, or administrative roles (e.g., Site Director, Medical Lead, Program Lead)
  • Experience participating in governance structures (committees, working groups, or boards), with the ability to lead and chair multidisciplinary groups
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, physician engagement, and system alignment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting or implementing operational standards across multiple clinical sites
  • Knowledge of Alberta’s primary care landscape, including Primary Care Networks and system interfaces
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMRs) such as TELUS PS Suite or Epic

  • Strategic leadership with the ability to align diverse academic teaching clinics under shared governance and operational frameworks
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority
  • Systems thinking and the ability to translate complex challenges into actionable strategies
  • Change management expertise, including leading implementation and adoption of new initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and guide continuous improvement
