About the role
We are looking for a Financial Analyst to join our client's team in Stratford, Ontario. In this role, you will help strengthen financial planning, reporting, and analysis by delivering accurate insights that support informed business decisions. The successful candidate will contribute to budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and financial close activities while working closely with internal stakeholders across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Produce monthly financial reporting packages, interpret results, and explain significant variances to support management decision-making.
- Contribute to the development of annual operating and capital plans, and assist in updating financial forecasts throughout the year and over the longer term.
- Reconcile balance sheet and other key accounts, research discrepancies, and resolve issues in a timely and accurate manner.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities by preparing journal entries, accruals, and related working papers.
- Maintain fixed asset records, complete related reconciliations, and prepare reporting tied to capital assets.
- Assist in preparing financial statements, board materials, management presentations, and analysis that supports strategic planning.
- Help complete regulatory reporting, financial submissions, audit schedules, and documentation required for external reviews.
- Partner with the Controller and internal departments to develop financial models, identify trends, and provide insight on risks, opportunities, and operational initiatives.
- Participate in strengthening financial controls, improving reporting processes, and enhancing finance systems and documentation.
- Provide support across accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, and payroll backup activities as needed.
Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least five years of progressive experience in accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, or a similar finance function.
- CPA designation or active enrollment in the CPA Education Program (PEP) is required.
- Solid knowledge of accounting standards, financial reporting, budgeting practices, forecasting methods, and analytical review.
- Advanced Excel skills, along with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience using ERP systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Well-developed organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities independently and collaboratively.
- Experience in utilities, electricity distribution, regulated industries, or payroll support would be considered an asset.
