Are you the one we’re looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Program Housing Assistant who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness, and empowerment; to our clients, families, and each other.

Reporting to the Managers of Halton Housing Services, this position will assist in providing intake supports and carrying out day-to-day administrative services. Wesley Halton Housing offers services to the homeless in Halton Region, supporting homeless families and individuals in a transitional program on-site. Services are based on a client-centered, residential harm reduction and housing first approach delivery model.

This position is a relief, unionized position. The rate of pay is $20.57 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:

On-Call & Intake

  • Responsible to complete on-call assessment protocols before admitting individuals or families to temporary housing program, coordinated through Halton 311,

  • Screen applicants for any recent, current or ongoing experience with domestic violence and make referrals to appropriate programs.

  • To provide set-up supports to new intakes into the program, including rules and regulations of program, participant consent & confidentiality forms, and other intake tasks.

  • To create and maintain a welcoming and safe housing environment within the current 24 hour, 7 days a week service model.

  • Complete pre and post move in inspections of on-site units to ensure health and safety standards, in collaboration with the program’s Health & Safety Officer & Property Manager.

Administrative

  • Document and input information into registry and participant files in computer databases (COTS) to ensure accurate service statistics and participant records.

  • To document incidents as required.

  • Maintain regular and effective communication with relieving staff of events during the shift, so staff are aware of outstanding concerns or issues to address.

Service Delivery

  • Ensure clients are safe during shift; if an emergency arises, staff will respond as required.

  • Respond to participant concerns related to daily living tasks, provide referrals, and guidance on issues related to living in temporary housing. To attend team meetings regularly/ as scheduled.

What you will bring:

  • A College Diploma in human services and administration, must have studies pertinent to social services, community health, human resources, and office administration.

  • Experience working with adults and families with mental health and addictions concerns and homelessness while providing non-judgmental supports lens.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and high stress situations.

  • Demonstrated experience as a highly motivated team player, with proven ability to take initiative and be self-directed.

  • Demonstrated skills in basic IT supports (i.e. password reset, computer updates, etc).
