The Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project is a multi-phase project that will transform the hospital into a modernized medical and surgical health care campus. Phase one is slated to open in spring 2025 and phase two in 2030.

Highlights of the two-phase redevelopment project include:

  • Expanded Emergency Department with additional treatment spaces
  • New health care pavilion with 83 beds to support maternity, neonatal intensive care, medicine and mental health patients
  • New operating rooms, procedure rooms and recovery spaces
  • New acute care tower with 160 beds
  • New medical imaging department
  • New integrated BC Cancer Centre

Burnaby Hospital plays an essential role to those living in the community by delivering a variety health care services. Services and specialties include emergency medicine, intermediate-level critical care, medical imaging, internal medicine, hospitalist medicine, geriatric medicine, neurology, gastroenterology, palliative, psychiatry, oncology, outpatient clinics, and an extensive surgery program with anesthesia, orthopedics, general surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, urology and plastics specialties.

Detailed Overview

Responsible for coordinating exercise schedules, planning and supervising exercise sessions for cardiac rehabilitation patients at an assigned location; assesses patient's medical history and performs diagnostic tests to develop an individual care plan for each patient; leads individual and group exercises, education, counseling and related patient cardiac rehabilitation support activities; acts as a resource through the collegial sharing of information and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in the planning, coordination and evaluation of patient exercise services.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Sports Medicine or Physiology. Two (2) years' recent related clinical experience in a cardiac rehabilitation environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Certification with American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) - Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CCEP), current CPR Level "C" certification or equivalent and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide staff and patient education.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
