Salary: $99,718.00 annually

Hours: 35 hours per week (12 month working year)

Location: TBD (primary office location in North Bay, ON)

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer / Director of Education, the Marketing and Communications Manager leads the development and execution of integrated marketing and communications strategies to inform, engage, and reach Near North District School Board (NNDSB) students, families, staff, and the broader community.

This role provides leadership in corporate communications, brand management, advertising, and digital engagement, ensuring consistent, accurate, and quality messaging aligned with Board priorities.

Working in close partnership with senior leadership, school administrators, and Board departments, the incumbent provides strategic counsel, leads complex initiatives, and manages high-profile and sensitive issues.

The Marketing and Communications Manager contributes to advancing NNDSB’s public profile through innovative, data-informed strategies, with a strong commitment to service excellence, equity, and continuous improvement.

Duties And Responsibilities

Lead the development and implementation of integrated marketing and communications strategies, including campaigns, media relations, and issues management. Oversee brand governance and visual identity, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment across all communications and marketing materials. Plan, execute, and evaluate marketing campaigns, advertising, and promotional initiatives across digital, print, and social media channels. Provide strategic marketing and communications counsel to senior leadership and departments, including support for complex, sensitive, or high-profile issues. Research, write, and oversee the development of key communications materials, including reports, speeches, media releases, digital content, and corporate messaging. Direct and manage the Board’s website and digital communications, including content strategy, user experience, and performance analytics. Lead media relations efforts, including building partnerships, responding to inquiries, and proactively managing the Board’s public profile. Guide schools and departments in effective communications planning, messaging, and stakeholder engagement. Monitor media and social media to identify emerging issues and lead crisis communications responses as required. Establish and maintain standards for accessible, inclusive, and professional communications aligned with Board policies. Measure and report on the effectiveness of marketing and communications initiatives, using analytics to inform decision-making and continuous improvement. Support organizational priorities by promoting equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive communication practices. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field, with a minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated leadership in developing and executing integrated marketing and communications strategies, including branding, campaigns, and advertising. Exceptional writing, editing, and content development skills across digital, print, and web platforms. Strong expertise in brand management, ad design, and visual communications. Proficiency with web content management systems, digital platforms, and social media strategy and analytics. Experience with design and marketing tools such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro). Working knowledge of website design, digital publishing, and multimedia production (photography, video, graphics). Proven ability to provide strategic advice to senior leadership and manage stakeholder relationships. Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal, consultation, and influencing skills. Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and a high degree of professionalism and discretion. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful, accessible communications. Knowledge of the Ontario education system is an asset.

Additional Requirements

Travel across NNDSB sites is required (valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle). Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Attendance at Board and committee meetings as required.'
