About the role

The Opportunity:

Make your mark while you grow your career! Canadian Natural has an exciting opportunity for a Community Relations Advisor based in either Slave Lake or St. Albert, Alberta. Reporting to the District Landman, Surface Land and Stakeholder Relations, you will work closely with our integrated team to help deliver stakeholder and communications objectives in support of Canadian Natural’s activity in its heavy oil and thermal regions. You will be expected to exercise sound judgment when dealing with sensitive or confidential information. Strengths in organization, communication, scheduling, meeting timelines, and managing multiple projects are key requirements.

  • Job location: Slave Lake, Alberta or St. Albert, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday - Friday) *
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and execute effective stakeholder engagement that ensures regulatory requirements, stakeholder expectations, and corporate objectives are met
  • Work closely with local governments and Indigenous communities to build relationships and support company activities
  • Help to develop yearly community plans for the Surface Land and Stakeholder Relations team to meet goals and objectives
  • Coordinate local communication activities such as workshops, open house sessions, and project updates
  • Support Indigenous consultation efforts in alignment with regulatory requirements and internal protocols
  • Planning and budgeting to meet commitments and pursue community opportunities
  • Manage the local community investment program including proposal submissions, attendance at events, and reporting

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (Communications, Stakeholder Engagement, Indigenous Relations)
  • 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in Stakeholder Relations, preferably in the Oil and Gas industry
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, including knowledge of Indigenous governance, protocols, and consultation requirements
  • Strong understanding of stakeholder engagement processes, with a track record of building meaningful relationships in diverse communities
  • Excellent communication skills (research, writing, listening, two-way dialogue, and relationship-building)
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and work independently
