$71,846.00 – $115,129.00 per annum. Placement on the faculty salary scale is based on education, professional certification and experience and will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

WHAT IT TAKES
As a probationary regular instructor in the Modern Languages Department you will:
- plan and teach lessons based on curriculum guidelines;
- prepare necessary teaching materials, quizzes, tests, exams, etc.;
- assess and evaluate student competencies;
- plan and provide activities and materials for conversation labs to be used by the lab assistant(s);
- provide academic advice to learners;
- deliver quality learner-centered instruction;
- hold regular office hours;
- maintain currency in the field through regular professional development;
- participate in curriculum revision and development;
- participate in student placement testing;
- attend departmental and Faculty-wide meetings;
- share in departmental and Faculty-wide responsibilities and participate in committee work.
Successful candidate will:

possess a Master’s degree in a field relevant to the teaching of Chinese language and culture; a credential in teaching Chinese as an additional language would be considered an asset;
-
possess native-level competence in Chinese (Mandarin);
-
have a minimum of two years’ experience teaching Chinese to adults; experience at the post-secondary level is an asset;
-
evidence of an ability to work effectively as part of a team, with excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills;
-
demonstrate initiative, creativity, and self-directedness;
-
show evidence of ongoing professional development.

The Modern Languages Department of the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts is inviting applications for a probationary regular position in Chinese beginning Fall 2026.
Workload is assigned every year based on available sections. We anticipate a regular probationary position at 50%.
