As a 100% employee-owned and operated firm, with over 1,400 staff members in 33 locations, we are proud to offer qualified staff with shareholding options in our company. At McElhanney, we work in teams to build strong connections with our staff, clients, and local communities. Our employees enjoy working here because of our varied projects, high levels of autonomy, opportunities for career development, excellent total compensation and benefits package, and collaborating with a team of great professionals.

The Opportunity

McElhanney is seeking a Project Coordinator to join our team in Kamloops, BC. In this role, you will be an essential asset to our team, advancing various projects and initiatives within our Kamloops branch on projects both locally and across BC. Our branch is a fast-growing, multi-disciplinary team that tackles diverse projects spanning from the planning and engagement phase through to construction. We work with public and private sector clients in the municipal, transportation, structural, geotechnical, industrial, land development, geomatics, and landscape architecture disciplines.

This position is with our Specialty Services division, a team which intersects all disciplines worked on by the branch while taking on unique projects primarily in the disaster recovery, project management, and energy and resource sectors. You will primarily work within the Specialty Services division but will be aligned to disciplines which suit your experience best and grow to work with multiple divisions throughout the branch and company.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to expand their career by gaining valuable insights and developing skills in the project delivery process. Our wide variety of projects is perfect for those looking to explore varied projects, develop expertise in emerging services, and position themselves as future leaders at McElhanney.

Live, Work, and Play in Kamloops

Kamloops offers an exceptional balance of affordability, stunning natural scenery, and a vibrant range of amenities and outdoor recreational opportunities. Our Kamloops office, located in a new and dog-friendly building, is a highly successful branch, consistently bidding for and securing projects both locally and across British Columbia. Throughout the year, we host a variety of events - from adopting a local trail and ski nights to group outings at hockey and baseball games, golf tournaments, and even a Mario Cup competition led by our Young Professionals group. Our team also actively supports local initiatives through both monetary donations and in-kind services for organizations such as Boogie the Bridge, RibFest, and the Salvation Army.

What You’ll Do

  • Work directly with Project Managers to understand their needs and assist with project tracking on budgets and schedule, scope management, monthly reporting, document control and preparation, and compliance with both internal and external standards.
  • Coordinate project meetings with clients and interested parties, contributing to discussions, capturing key action items, and ensuring follow-up on deliverables.
  • Provide operational support by assisting with project setup, staff coordination, safety implementation, and quality management.
  • Work on projects which scale in size and duration and will vary in complexity from planning studies, to extensive field programs, through to construction and recovery operations.
  • Support Project Managers within your initial area of work while progressively expanding your understanding of other teams and service areas. Use curiosity, critical thinking, and adaptability to take on evolving responsibilities and contribute to a variety of project types.
  • Occasionally travel to project sites as needed; typically 3-5 days per quarter will require travel.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to work from the office four days per week to promote collaboration, team connection, and engagement.

What You’ll Bring

  • 5 years of experience in project coordination or similar role. Experience in consulting, engineering, or construction fields is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in a related STEM or Project Management / Business Administration. Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated organization skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and adjust when priorities shift.
  • Teamwork and communication skills; ability to build and manage relationships with staff members, coordinating team members for both office and field assignments.
  • Strong digital and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Project, and PDF editing tools (e.g. Bluebeam or Adobe), as well as a readiness to integrate Microsoft Copilot into daily workflows. Applicants who can demonstrate practical experience using these tools to improve organization, efficiency, and communication will be preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Quality Management Systems, with experience working under internal, professional, and client-specific standards. Focus on documenting checks and approvals, managing project files, and verifying that all required reviews and sealed documents are properly recorded.
