Why Join This Team? The Environment, Health & Safety student has a unique opportunity to work equally in both an office setting and on the manufacturing plant floor. The student will work as part of a small site-specific EH&S team to support environmental and safety initiatives for the site, taking direction from the Plant 41 EH&S team. The student may have occasional outdoor work and will be exposed to both team and independent tasks.

Internship Dates: January 6th to April 24th, 2026.

What your day-to-day will look like?

  • The successful candidate will be placed in the EH&S department and will be supporting the Halifax Operation in its goal to achieve 100% compliance to corporate and regulatory EH&S requirements, including closing out actions that were identified during previous audits.
  • To help drive a focus toward sustainable practices, the successful candidate will assist with identifying and implementing best practices for reduction of waste, water use and energy consumption.
  • The successful candidate will also be providing support for EH&S programs related to risk identification and mitigation, including ergonomics and chemical exposures.
  • Work may include leading projects with such focus as wastewater discharge compliance, worker chemical exposures, carbon footprint reduction, and overall risk reduction initiatives.
  • The student may be assisting with development of business case documents for proposed capital projects related to environment, health and safety, including initial data gathering, communicating with potential vendors, preparing budget estimates, project scheduling, and writing proposals.
  • The student may assist with developing EH&S training materials and communicating initiatives to employees. In addition, the student may assist with incident investigations, trending and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Work will require communicating often and directly with plant employees on the shop floor, as well as with management and production supervisors.
  • The student will be required to attend, and actively participate in, various committee meetings (sustainable factory, industrial hygiene, joint occupational health and safety, change management, etc.).

What do you need to be successful?

  • Be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Be enrolled in a Canadian university throughout your internship.
  • Be able to work on-site in the province where you are hired if applicable.
  • The candidate must be enrolled in the Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Industrial Engineering program.

  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and be able to demonstrate a commitment to EH&S.
  • A team player complemented by strong individual initiative.
  • The ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities.
