Strides Toronto Support Services (“Strides Toronto”) Strides Toronto is a multi-service agency supporting infants, children, youth and young adults from birth to age 29, and their families, primarily across east Toronto. We offer community-based, residential and treatment programs—including mental health counselling, autism services, early intervention, day treatment, education, outreach and community support—using a client-centered, evidence-informed approach. Since 2015, Strides Toronto has served as Toronto’s Lead Agency for Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health, partnering with 21 core service providers to provide system leadership, citywide planning, coordinated service delivery and program alignment. Strides Toronto also leads initiatives with broader reach, includingHelp Aheadand theHOPE Strategyacross Toronto andOne Stop Talk/Parlons Maintenantand theProvincial Youth Outreach Worker Programacross Ontario.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an existing vacancy for a full-time permanent Live-In Treatment Child and Youth Practitioner. The Live-In Treatment Child and Youth Practitioner facilitates and delivers assessments, therapeutic treatment and programming, and discharge planning and aftercare for children and youth in a live-in treatment program environment, where supervision, support and care of children and youth is provided 24 hours/ day, 365 days/ year.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Provide care and supervision that supports the health and wellbeing of each client within the residential environment and in their daily functioning. Each full-time staff may be assigned to a client as a primary care provider and take the lead for care and therapeutic needs.
- Provide support and treatment that is evidence-informed and in-line with goals and objectives and support clients mental health and wellbeing within the live-in environment and in their daily functioning.
- Organize, attend and participate in various meetings that support client’s therapeutic programming needs and enhance communication between residence staff and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Participate in the care and maintenance of a residential home and program facilities to ensure the health and safety of program participants and staff, and that meet licensing standards.
- Complete the required documentation and administrative responsibilities to support the needs of the program and the clients and meet the requirements of the Ministry and Licensing bodies.
THE “MUST HAVES”
The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:
- CYW/ CYC Diploma or Degree.
- One year of work experience in live-in Treatment setting with clients presenting with mental health concerns.
- Knowledge of Crisis Management/ Intervention Models.
- Knowledge of Evidence-based treatment modalities.
- Knowledge of Trauma informed practice and Conflict resolution skills,
- Awareness of the role of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
- An understanding of anti-black racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
- Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.
THE ‘NICE TO HAVES’
While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following:
- Functional computer and client information system knowledge.
- Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.
