TELUS Spark Science Centre (Spark), a registered educational charity, exists to entertain and inspire people of all ages through creative encounters with science, engineering, technology, math and art. Spark exists to lift people up with the power of curiosity through creative encounters with science!

Calgary’s science centre is a pioneer in science entertainment and programming, with roots dating back to 1967. Home to one of Western Canada’s largest dome theatre, the Digital Immersion Gallery, VR experiences, and innovative spaces like Steven’s Lab, where interactive experiments unfold before your eyes. From the robot-dog Flint to Canada’s first robot-coa5ter, R05iE, and a 15-acre park surrounding the science of the developing brain, Spark is a hub for creative encounters.

Position Overview

The custodians are accountable for ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the building. This includes performing janitorial work in the building, providing customer service, and being a brand ambassador for Spark.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate and contribute with the collective effort of proving great customer service and a welcoming atmosphere to our guests.
• Maintaining building and property in clean and orderly condition
• Follow procedures for using equipment within a safe manner
• Assist with setup and removal of events when required
• Flexible scheduling of shifts
• Model high performance, flexibility and kindness in a rapidly changing growth environment.
• Other duties as required and assigned.
• Mix cleaning solutions and chemicals in preparation for cleaning within WHIMS guidelines
• Develop positive working relationships with colleagues and other staff in Spark.
• Proactively identify needs or issues that are or will impact guests and act accordingly.
• Protect employees and customers by providing a safe and clean environment.
• Ensure all elements of the guest journey is held to the highest standard.
• Ensure personal and team activities are aligned with the business and strategic goals of Spark as a whole.

Qualifications & Knowledge

• 1-2 years of related experience in commercial cleaning

• Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures

• Experienced using floor scrubbers and other cleaning equipment.

• Good verbal communication skills, able to listen and easily understand guests’ requests.

• The successful candidate’s schedule will be Wednesday through Sunday 11:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

• Ability to answer and address customer questions and concerns in a manner that benefits both the guest and the organization.

• Ability to physically fit for prolonged standing, walking, bending, pushing, and able to lift 25kg,

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
