WAGE RANGE: $46.68 to $65.15

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Acting in a leadership capacity the Registered Nurse-Surgical First Assists will support the Surgical Program through collaboration with the Site Chief of Surgery and the Clinical Manager to ensure the efficient utilization of resources within the department. Driven by a fundamental passion and commitment to Patient/Client Centered Care and Inter-professional Practice, the successful candidate will be responsible for: Collaboration with the surgeon and operating room team to provide intra-operative and post-operative care. This includes working to promote nursing excellence, quality patient/client-centred care and high professional standards. The RNFA role supports the expansion of the surgical assistant rotations and improves patient safety and outcomes using a team-based model of care. The incumbent will perform all other relevant duties assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the unit to which she/he is assigned, such as supporting nursing recruitment/retention strategies by presenting new opportunities for career enhancement and skill development. The successful candidate will be a part of a regional program and assist with gaps in on call rotations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

o Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

o Must possess a Registered Nurse First Assist Certificate

o One (1) years related clinical experience in the past three (3) years in an operating room

o Current BCLS and ACLS certification

o Perioperative certification mandatory

o Demonstrated knowledge and skill in physical assessment (Physical Assessment Course required)

o Controlled acts authorized to nursing for the operating room and/or delegated controlled acts

o Demonstrated proficiency in IV Therapy and Advanced IV Therapy

o Demonstrated knowledge of and skill with CVADs, Advanced CVADs, and Electrocardiograms

o Current knowledge of operating room techniques as evidenced by an in-depth knowledge of the Standards for Perioperative Nursing in accordance with the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC)

o Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of operating room instruments and procedures

o Proficiency in equipment processing in accordance with Central Sterilization and Reprocessing standards

o Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of nursing standards as they apply to the care of perioperative patients/clients

o Demonstrated ability to develop an integrated plan of care

o Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and related professional associations

o Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service

o Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving

o Working knowledge of computers

o Consistent and regular work attendance required
