About the role

CHILDREN’S PROGRAM FACILITATOR

The Trico Centre for Family Wellness is currently hiring a Children’s Program Facilitator. The Children’s Program Facilitator takes a lead role in planning and delivering fun and engaging programs for parent/tot and preschool-aged children. These high-quality programs fuel children’s intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth while ensuring their security and well-being. Programs run based on sessional registration. Current Fall/Winter offerings include:

  • Parent/Tot: Explorers, Music & Movement
  • Preschool: First Steps, Messy Hands, Little Learners

Session Dates:

  • Fall 1: Sept–Oct
  • Fall 2: Nov–Dec
  • Winter: Jan–Mar
  • Spring: Apr–June

Part-time hours available Monday through Friday between 8:45am – 12:00pm.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Child Studies, Bachelor of Health and Physical Education

  • Human Services or Social Sciences certificate, diploma or degree

  • Level 2 or 3 Early Childhood Educator

  • Students (currently enrolled in the above programs) may be considered based on coursework completed to date, training received, volunteer experience and previous work experience.

  • Current First Aid and Level C CPR.

  • Clear Police Check including Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check (within past 6 months).

  • Minimum 1-year of children’s program planning and delivery.

  • Experience leading groups in one or more of the following areas would be an asset: recreational sports, arts and crafts, day camps, gymnastics, dance, music.

Performance Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Plan and implement early learning programming that supports and promotes the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
  • Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art (preparing crafts), dramatic play, music, and physical activity.
  • Search fun and innovative ways to keep children engaged through age-appropriate activities, games, and play.
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits.
  • Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children. This includes but is not limited to: bathroom supervision, regular head counts, use of walkie-talkie to communicate with supervisors, awareness of facility muster point, and knowledge of current facility emergency procedures.
  • Implements age and developmentally appropriate support strategies (i.e. visual schedule, breaks down steps into smaller parts, may offer fidget tools, verbal praise, redirection, positive reinforcement). When requiring assistance, the Children’s Program Facilitator may contact the Programs Director / Programs Coordinator.
  • When leading a Parent & Tot program, the Children’s Program Facilitator supports, role models, and encourages caregivers as they engage in games/activities alongside their child.
  • Communicates positively with parents (shares goals, successes, provides factual observations).
  • Establish and maintains positive and collaborative relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and all other Trico department employees.
  • Consistently follows daily and weekly schedule to ensure preschool furniture, toys, washroom, and carpet are inspected, maintained, and clean.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work the required schedule.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to bend, twist, move and lift items weighing 30 lbs. or greater.
  • Follows guidelines for cleaning and sanitizing protocols (Alberta Government Health Measures).
  • Works in a noisy environment and with varied sports related equipment.
  • May be required to go outdoors in varying weather.
  • May be required to use various activity-based tools (i.e. glue guns, cooking equipment, cleaning supplies, etc.).
