About the role

POSITION SUMMARY

This employee will be required to plan and design minor renovations, prepare drawings and specifications, solicit vendor quotations, oversee project execution, and maintain the Hospital site record drawings.

Duties include:

  • Researching client requests for service;
  • Meeting with clients and user groups to define requirements and assess space functionality; providing options for review by the users including product and colour selections;
  • Developing sensible architectural solutions to user requests;
  • Transforming these requests into sketches and formal drawings on AutoCAD
  • Selecting products in the design process that will meet the needs of the clients and also minimize maintenance and general upkeep from Hospital staff;
  • Determining method of implementation;
  • Preparing drawings, specifications and contract documentation to facilitate bidding from outside forces; soliciting quotations from local contracting agencies; supervising job showings and mandatory site meetings; coordinating bid opening, assessing bids for completeness and good value for money, and making recommendations for contract award;
  • Scheduling implementation for projects so as to minimize disruption to Hospital operations;
  • Coordinating all in-house and contractor forces activities;
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of infection control standards for the Hospital and enforcing these standards with contractor and in-house forces;
  • Reviewing executed works, ensuring that the intent of the design and contract has been met and that user expectations are satisfied;
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations and ensuring compliance on Hospital work sites;
  • Assessing office layout and configuration and designing new functional layouts, complete with modular workstation design;
  • Scheduling and co-ordinating office moves between users, FMPD, Housekeeping, Information Services and Communications staffs;
  • Assisting in maintaining a project file system for all requests;
  • Maintaining a close liaison with the Electrical / Mechanical Coordinator for scheduling of in-house support to projects;
  • Researching new building products., materials, and accessories for hospital application and seek out local suppliers;
  • Working evenings and weekends when renovations are underway;
  • Participating in Hospital orientation and other training sessions;
  • Updating site record drawings and maintaining the Hospital as built drawings in a satisfactory state;
  • Performing other related tasks as identified by the management team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Police Record Check (PRC) (Essential)
  • Candidate must have an Architectural Technologist Diploma from an accredited Community College (Essential)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of working experience as an Architectural Technologist (Essential)
  • Proficiency in Auto CAD (Essential)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills (Essential)
  • Knowledge of modular workstation design and layout (Preferred)
  • Previous Hospital experience (Preferred)
  • Bilingualism (Preferred)

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process.
