Job Description

As a Director, Employee Relations, you will act as a lead strategic advisor and execution partner, playing a critical role in mitigating legal, financial, and reputational risk for the organization while ensuring colleagues are treated fairly, respectfully, and in alignment with our guiding principles of Integrity, Partnership, and High Performance.

You will work collaboratively with leaders throughout Talent and the business to develop and implement innovative solutions, whilst resolving complex issues, to support the organization’s ambition and strategic direction.

Core Accountabilities:

  • Provide expert advisory support to people leaders and Talent colleagues on complex, high-risk employee relations matters, including performance management, conduct issues, workplace conflict, investigations, restructurings, and terminations.

  • Exercise strong judgment and discretion in managing sensitive matters, ensuring compliance with applicable employment legislation and organizational policies while balancing business objectives and colleague experience.

  • Lead the design, review, and implementation of ER-related policies, programs, and practices that reflect best-in-class standards and evolving legislative and cultural expectations.

  • Drive continuous improvement in ER processes and tools to enhance efficiency, scalability, and the colleague experience.

  • Leverage data and insights from ER cases to identify trends, inform proactive interventions, and advise on organizational risks and opportunities.

  • Act as the subject matter expert and Centre of Excellence for Employee Relations across the Talent function, providing guidance on complex policy interpretation, offer letter clauses, and employment law considerations.

  • Collaborate across the Talent function and with people leaders to share knowledge, ensure alignment, and contribute to the development of ER capabilities globally to effectively address and prevent ER issues, while fostering a culture of high performance, integrity and accountability.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Law, Industrial Relations, or a related field; a legal background is an asset.

    • 8+ years of progressive experience in employee relations or a related field, with significant experience managing complex cases and investigations.
    • Deep knowledge of Canadian employment law and HR practices, with global or multi-jurisdictional exposure (e.g., US, UK, Hong Kong) strongly preferred.
    • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
    • Excellent listening and communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to advise, coach and influence senior leaders.
  • Experience in identifying and resolving complex issues while assuming leadership positions in ambiguous or unfamiliar situations.

  • Experience in policy development, change management, and driving continuous improvement in ER processes.

  • Experience fostering effective and sustainable working relationships at all levels internally and with external parties.
