Job Title: Engineer – Additive Manufacturing, Junior

 

 

Job Summary

You will lead operations for additive manufacturing at the Linamar Innovation

Hub, overseeing all stages from research and development to production and internal marketing. This role involves optimizing equipment, human resources, and materials, while providing support across various manufacturing processes, troubleshooting issues, and managing teams to enhance efficiency and productivity.

   

Responsibility

  • Collaborate with production planning to establish priorities and ensure availability of tools, documentation, and resources for production jobs.
  • Stay updated on additive manufacturing trends and innovations through industry publications, events, and research.
  • Maintain 5S standards in work areas, ensuring organization, cleanliness, and efficiency.
  • Interpret product specifications and ensure efficient printer operation to optimize production performance.
  • Lead and support team members in additive manufacturing operations, guiding them on best practices and resolving production challenges.
  • Evaluate and recommend new machinery and equipment to enhance production efficiency, including conducting time studies as well as process and layout optimization.
  • Participate in government incentive programs, ex. scientific research & experimental development tax credit.
  • Interface with suppliers and internal teams to establish engineering requirements and resolve operational issues.
  • Develop and review process documentation, operator instructions, and corrective actions to ensure continuous improvement and conformance to standards.
  • Participate in performance metric development, training, customer meetings, and other initiatives to drive the success of additive manufacturing at Linamar.

 

Academic/Educational Requirements

University degree or diploma in engineering or equivalent.

Licensing by a provincial or territorial association of Professional Engineers

(P.Eng.) would be an asset. 

 

Required Skills/Experience

A minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in a machining or manufacturing

environment is required.

Experience with additive manufacturing processes, including parameters, tooling, and equipment, is necessary.

Familiarity with machine processes, cutting tools, fixtures, CNC systems, and

special-purpose equipment is an asset.

The ability to assess current building systems' capacity to meet the increased

demands of plant operations is required.

Experience with risk analysis techniques, including Failure Modes and Effects

Analysis (FMEA), is an asset.

The ability to review scale drawings to ensure proposed designs meet client

requirements and manufacturing capabilities is important.

Proficiency in taking precise measurements using specialized equipment and

developing statistical data to describe equipment and system performance, is required.

Experience estimating durations for development, fabrication, construction, and

repair tasks, as well as selecting materials and equipment based on project needs, is needed.

Experience contacting suppliers to verify product availability, obtain equipment

specifications, and negotiate delivery timelines is essential.

The ability to work collaboratively within teams of engineers, technicians, and

contractors to complete common projects, including assuming project management responsibilities, is necessary.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CAD applications (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), and statistical analysis software is required. Experience with slicing software, such as Materialise Magics, is an asset.
