A Day in the Life
As a Grain Superintendent, you’ll be at the heart of vessel loading operations at Bunge’s Vancouver Terminal. You will coordinate stevedoring activities, working closely with terminal staff, vessel agents, and port authorities to ensure vessels are loaded safely, efficiently, and in accordance with shipping requirements.
Providing on‑site leadership across every shift, you will balance operational priorities, safety considerations, and logistical demands while directly supervising Foremen and Longshore workers. In this role, you serve as a key point of contact between Bunge terminal operations, logistics personnel, and external partners to support seamless vessel operations.
Position Details
- This is a safety‑sensitive, operational leadership role requiring hands‑on involvement and strong coordination skills.
- This position is a full‑time role (40 hours per week) and requires 24/7 shift work, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, based on operational requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supervise and coordinate the work of Foremen and Longshore workers engaged in vessel loading
- Assess loading priorities in coordination with Terminal Supervisors and the Logistics team, considering cargo availability, shipping instructions, and stowage requirements
- Determine personnel requirements on a shift‑by‑shift basis and coordinate dispatch through the BCMEA dispatch office
- Dispatch Longshore Foremen daily and act as a liaison between Longshore labour and Terminal Supervisors
- Direct loading operations, ensuring equipment, separations, and third‑party materials are available as required
- Supervise checking and loading to ensure compliance with cargo specifications and shipping instructions
- Prepare shift reports including cargo loaded, delays, labour usage, weather impacts, and material requirements
- Manage and apply knowledge of stow factors, cargo characteristics, vessel stability, and grain sensitivities
- Prepare stow plans and pre‑arrival conditions, ensuring vessels meet all inspection and stability requirements prior to loading
- Liaise with the Vessel Master and Chief Officer throughout the loading rotation
- Provide on‑site supervision for each shift and attend vessels prior to completion to oversee final loading sequences
- Prepare final stow plans and issue final loading reports upon completion
- Ensure adherence to Safety, Health, and Environmental (SH&E) requirements at all times
Skills/Experience Requirements:

Previous experience as a Superintendent or in a similar operational leadership role

Demonstrated experience supervising stevedoring or marine terminal operations

Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills

Ability to make sound operational decisions in a dynamic, safety‑sensitive environment

Post‑secondary degree in Agriculture, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field

Experience working in grain handling, oilseeds, pulses, or bulk commodity operations

Familiarity with vessel stowage planning, stability requirements, and port operations

Equivalent combinations of education and experience that demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and competencies will be considered
