Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Markham Elevation Center three times per week, at minimum.

As part of HVAC Software Engineering for Body Control organization, you will be part of fast-paced, agile teams building software and innovative solutions for customer facing features in the Body Controls and Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Control domain. You will contribute to the development, implementation, testing, and debugging of embedded software systems for HVAC Climate Controls for all GM vehicles produced globally! This is a full-time, entry-level position designed for recent graduates ready to launch their careers in automotive software engineering.

Key Responsibilities: Work as part of an Agile Scrum team that develops embedded automotive HVAC Climate Control systems. Responsibilities of this team unit include:

  • You’ll be required to create and integrate software in C (hand-coded C), with some flexibility to choose implementation methods, unit test, multi-component test and test in virtual environment. Merge SW through github, generate builds and manage the work through jira.
  • Create interfaces as required to integrate new software components into existing software
  • Archive software components into repository database
  • Interface with GM internal teams – Calibrators, Vehicle Integration Teams, etc.
  • Participate in the Agile Team and ART Program Events as required
  • Working together with Product Owners, Testers, and other developers, using methods like Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD), create and implement Features for GM’s next generation of EV and ICE vehicles

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Masters or PhD degree in computer science, Mechatronics, Software, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with developing and debugging code in C (hand-code)
  • Individually motivated; Scrum Team members are expected to pursue their goals with a high degree of independence and motivation
  • Good oral and written communication skills are required, and high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively in a geographically dispersed team
  • Ability to manage time and meet deliverable timing is critical

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with embedded software development experience preferred
  • C++ experience is a strong plus
  • Experience using AI tools
  • Python experience
  • Experience in any of the domains noted above an asset but not required (Comfort/HVAC, occupant access, position, protection, vision & visibility)
  • Experience with EcoCar or SAE Projects
  • Experience with CI/CD systems, software automation
  • Experience with Jenkins
  • Literate in Matlab/Simulink
  • Outstanding leadership, interpersonal, and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex subjects to a wider audience
  • High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative/self-directed
  • Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability and trust
  • Consistently demonstrates innovative thinking that is customer-centric
  • Excellent project management skills and the proven track record to manage numerous projects at any given
  • Possess strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills

The monthly salary range for this role is $4,264.00 to $5,200.00. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
