0.35 FTE Temporary part-time (Okanagan Language) nsyilxcen Language****Instructor at Merritt Central Elementary, beginning September 1, 2026 to December 18, 2026.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be a speaker of the nsyilxcen**** Language. __
  • Possess a First Nations Language teacher certificate for nsyilxcen Language or be eligible for this certificate.
  • Have a good understanding of Syilx culture.
  • Training and experience working with grade-level students.
  • Experience with adapting materials, resources, assessments and learning outcomes for student needs.
  • Valid BC Teaching certificate or eligible for Letter of Permission.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A commitment to supporting a variety of learning needs.
  • Experience/training in supporting the social-emotional learning needs of students.
  • Committed to establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • Committed to working as a member of a school team in support of students.

The District may give preference in hiring persons of Indigenous ancestry who possess the necessary qualifications to increase the number of Indigenous staff to be more representative of the learners we serve.

The starting annual salary for this full-time teacher position ranges from $64,664 - $112,806, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
