About the role

Position: MDS Data Management Clinician Department: Records Processing Duration Approximately Six (6) Months with the possibility of extension

The MDS Data Management Clinician role focuses on the collection, organization, management, and submission of all data related to the following data sets and reporting systems:

  • Minimum Data Set – National Rehabilitation Reporting System (MDS-NRS)
  • Minimum Data Set – Complex Continuing Care Reporting System (MDS-CCRS) which will be changing to the Integrated interrail Reporting System Long-Term Care (IRRS LTC) effective April 1, 2026
  • Residential Assessment Instrument – Ontario Mental Health Reporting System (RAI-OMHRS)

This role routinely interacts with allied health and nursing staff on inpatient units and provides education as required across the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge

  • Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in working with or facilitating interdisciplinary/inter-agency groups and committees required
  • Broad nursing background, including extensive recent experience in complex continuing care (within the last year)
  • Certification in the skills required for the clinical settings
  • Excellent demonstrated physical and psychosocial assessment
  • Experience with data submission to Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) (2 years recent experience) required
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret data collected within the assessments including Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI)/National Rehabilitation Reporting System (NRS)
  • Experience with reports received from Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC)
  • Demonstrated ability to summarize this information to departments for financial and clinical operational purposes.
  • Experience in policy and procedure development is required
  • Experience in working with or facilitating interdisciplinary/inter-agency groups and committees

Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as well as a demonstrated ability to work effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Must demonstrate excellent team player skills including interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent demonstrated communication and reporting skills (oral and written)
  • Critical problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent demonstrated organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle several projects/tasks simultaneously and ensure successful completion
  • Computer literacy utilizing a variety of computer applications required
  • Experience working with AV resources, computer technology is required
  • Good attendance and work record required
  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure their safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
  • Bilingualism (English/French) an asset

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario

NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.

NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.

NBRHC’s Regional Mental Health Services provides inpatient beds in North Bay and Sudbury and outpatient and outreach services that throughout the region—from Hudson Bay to Muskoka from Sault Ste. Marie to the Quebec border.
