LABORER
POSITION: LABORER –PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
LOCATION: MUNICIPALITY OF NORRISTOWN
HOURLY WAGE: $22.69 PER HOUR
HOURS: 7:00 AM TO 3:00 PM - MONDAY – FRIDAY
Summer Hours: 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM
EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time, Non-exempt, Laborers Local 57

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENT. VALID PA
DRIVER’S LICENSE: CDL CLASS A or obtain within 90 days of employment. Basic knowledge of hand tools and basic practice of labor operations. Ability to follow written and/or oral directives. Ability to perform a wide variety of assignments often for prolonged periods of time and under adverse weather conditions. Ability to continuously stand and walk; lift and carry up to 80 lbs.; push and pull up to 40 lbs. frequently. Successful background check required.
GENERAL DEFINITION: This is an entry level position which requires manual work usually of a repetitive nature. Work involves the use of manual tools on routine tasks and occasionally the use of smaller power operated tools. Responsibilities range over a wide variety of municipal activities, including light and heavy physical labor, indoor and outdoor work, and working alone or in groups depending on the location and nature of the assignment.

About Municipality of Norristown
Norristown is governed by a Municipal Council which consists of seven members representing each of the voting districts in the Municipality. There are four districts and three at large seats. The Council directs the activities of the Municipality through the appointed Municipal Manager, who in turn supervises all departments.
All council members serve four-year terms, and are eligible for reelection twice. On the first Monday of January in each even numbered year, the Municipal Council conducts a reorganization meeting where they elect a President and Vice President of Council. The Council meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month. All members of council are part-time. The agenda is posted here 72 hours prior to the meeting.
