The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) is seeking dynamic sales professionals to join our growing sales team and make an impact in music education across Canada, US, and globally. We are looking for candidates who thrive in prospecting new business opportunities and engage with existing clients for upsell and cross-sell opportunities. You will be part of a team that will be the driving force of RCM’s ambitious growth plan aligned with its strategic directions.
Business Development Representatives (BDRs) play a key role in generating new business opportunities across RCM Learning Systems portfolio—including the RCM Certificate Program, Smart Start early childhood education, and RCM publications.
This role is responsible for identifying, researching, and qualifying prospective partners such as music teachers, studios, schools, early learning centres, and music retailers. The BDR contributes to revenue growth by building the top of the sales funnel, engaging qualified leads, and booking discovery meetings for Account Executives, and engaging with existing RCM Certificate Program clients.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
RCM Program Participants Engagement
Engage with RCM program participants to promote.
Lead Generation & Prospecting
- Conduct outbound outreach (email, phone, social, events) to generate qualified leads across targeted market segments (music schools, K–12 institutions, daycares, studios, retailers) in assigned territories.
- Research and identify key stakeholders and potential partner institutions using CRM, LinkedIn, industry databases, and event lists. Respond promptly to inbound inquiries and qualify leads for follow-up by the sales team.
Lead Qualification & Handoff
- Initiate discovery conversations to understand prospect needs and determine fit with RCM products.
- Schedule meetings and demos for Account Executives, ensuring seamless handoff and proper documentation in CRM. Maintain accurate and organized lead records, touchpoints, and progress notes in Salesforce.
Market & Campaign Support
- Stay informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and competitor activities.
- Assist with campaign execution by following up on generated leads and event attendees.
- Collaborate with sales leadership to improve scripts, email templates, and outreach tools. Collect feedback from the field to help refine audience targeting and outreach tactics.
Team & Reporting
- Participate in weekly team meetings, share market insights, and contribute to pipeline updates.
- Track personal performance metrics in CRM (e.g., number of outreach activities, qualified leads, meetings booked) and adjust outreach accordingly. Support sales and marketing at conferences, webinars, and industry events, as required.
Performing other duties as required.
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Post-secondary education, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1+ years of experience working in inbound/outbound contact centre.
- 1+ years of experience in sales support, direct client facing upsell/cross-sell.
- Experience working in a target-based service model.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong research and organizational abilities; detail-oriented.
- Experience with high-volume outreach activities such as cold calls, emails, and other lead generation tools.
- Demonstrated experience using CRM systems (Salesforce preferred). Ability to work independently in a goal-driven environment.
Preferred:
- Experience in customer support, product and program knowledge sharing and promotion.
- Background or interest in music or the arts.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting sales teams, institutional sales, and direct to consumer.
Additional Information
- As part of the Total Rewards package for this role, compensation will be a combination of performance-based pay and variable incentive pay such as bonuses or commissions.
- Scheduling flexibility for shifts: currently seeking shifts between 9:00am ET - 9:00 pm ET M-F (35 hours/week), Please note that specific shift timing is subject to change.
- Sit for extended periods of time with exposure to computer screen.
