About the role

General Information:

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for the temporary full-timeCommunications Administrative Assistantposition in the Communications & Engagement Division within the Corporate Services Department. This temporary full-time opportunity provides maternity leave coverage and is anticipated to continue until approximately late November 2027, subject to change. Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Engagement and with direction and / or supervision from the Communications Specialist, the Communications Administrative Assistant is an integral part of the Communications & Engagement Division and works closely with staff across the organization to support a range of communication and engagement initiatives by providing administrative support, proofreading documents, drafting content, and assisting with support for communication tools, initiatives, and projects associated with the Communications & Engagement Division. This position is also responsible for creating, reviewing, and curating digital asset libraries to support the consistent delivery of engaging, accessible, and dynamic content across media channels and adherence to standards related to brand and records management.

Qualifications:

  • Secondary school graduation plus completion of an Office Administration Certificate (minimum 6 months).
  • 4 years of administrative experience, preferably in an area related to communications and / or public engagement.
  • Experience and understanding of public participation processes and outreach activities.
  • Formal education or training in Communications or a related discipline is considered an asset.
  • Experience editing and writing for a public service organization is an asset.
  • Local government experience is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Hours of Work:

Guaranteed 35 hours of work per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and eligible for flex time. This position may be required to attend some evening and weekend meetings.

Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the CVRD has a Work From Home program. This program allows staff to work remotely, with the number of remote days per week determined by operational requirements, from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a CVRD worksite. This position works from the CVRD's main office in Duncan, BC, and at this time, is eligible to be part of the Work From Home program, potentially working a hybrid in-office / remote schedule (up to 2 days per week at home) after a successful in-office training period. Please note that regular in-office presence is required.

Salary:

Wage rate in 3 steps as per the Collective Agreement between the CVRD and CUPE Local 358, $33.46 - $34.48 - $35.50 per hour (2025 rates), plus an additional 6% pay in lieu of vacation and eligibility for benefits as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
