Job Summary Create, staff and maintain recreation programs to service the diverse needs of the community. Provide resolution to any customer complaints and concerns effectively and timely. Ensure program and safety standards are maintained at all times.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Supervisor, Community Programs, the Recreation Programmer will, plan, develop and implement various programs, (i.e. “learn to” recreation sports programs, preschool programs, youth programs, camps, drop-in programs).
- Provide customer service, resolving issues, and communicating new programs/ changes/cancellations.
- Provide functional guidance to part-time staff and volunteers, coordinating staff and volunteer orientation, preparing materials for all programs and staff training, etc.
- Produce in-house marketing materials using various software programs.
- Ensure a coordinated approach of service delivery, space utilization and maximize cross-over programming.
- Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery where appropriate.
- Incorporate and model the principles of Physical Literacy in program delivery where appropriate.
- Ensure compliance of existing City Recreation & Culture Division Standard Operating Procedures and Corporate Policies.
- Other duties as required.
Skills And Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Recreation, Phys Ed, Kinesiology or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years progressive experience in Recreation or a related field.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, structural software applications, and all other appropriate City software.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the development, design and delivery of general interest recreation programs and camps.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills in working with staff, community groups, outside agencies and public.
- May require some lifting of supplies/materials.
- Proficient computer skills in Active Net registration system is an asset.
- Must have current CPR, Standard First Aid Certification, HIGH FIVE® - PHCD, Quest 1 and Quest 2 (or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of start date).
- Ability to travel between multiple recreation sites within the city for time-sensitive work related travel. Access to a personal vehicle is preferred
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
- Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 69,080.00 - $ 92,107.00
Grade: D
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
