acquisition-oriented corporation focused on opportunities in two sectors: aviation services and equipment and manufacturing. The Winnipeg finance department of EIC Shared Services provides finance and accounting services to several subsidiaries within its Aviation segment including Calm Air International, Perimeter Aviation, Keewatin Air

and Custom Helicopters etc. Our group consists of approximately 75 people.

Position Summary

The Payroll Supervisor is directly responsible for ensuring accurate, complete and efficient preparation of payrolls. Other duties of this position include the development and maintenance of accurate and timely payroll reporting for internal management and ensuring staff are supported. Acts as a liaison to internal departments to provide guidance, build working relationships, and resolve escalated issues. The incumbent also performs other duties and projects, as assigned by the Manager of Payroll.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Payroll Department. Runs the processing of multiple payrolls. Monitors compliance with approved policies and procedures.
  • Supervises a work group of payroll staff. Evaluates and trains staff as necessary. Adjusts workloads as necessary and ensures all staff including Supervisor are cross trained in all companies.
  • Implements improvement to processes, procedures, and workflow to create efficiencies. Contributes to the development of payroll related policies and procedures along with the maintenance of the new hire package as required.
  • Ensures accurate accounting and reporting on all payroll related feeds to finance.
  • Performs and oversees accurate, correct, and timely payroll reconciliations and audits, and troubleshoots any issues that arise.
  • Support Payroll team as administrators of employee benefit programs – including putting policies and procedures in place to ensure that disability and critical illness claims are appropriate and submitted.
  • Coordinates communication between Payroll Department and other departments/companies both internal (ESS) and external in accordance with set priorities.
  • Provides information on systems and processes, and guidance on issues as appropriate. Escalates high level issues and all service issues to Payroll Manager.
  • Communicates technical and confidential information to all levels of employees and outside agencies as appropriate. Provides immediate response to requests for clarification and interpretation of data.
  • Ensure proper storage and organization of source documentation.
  • Development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and ensure Payroll team is trained on current SOPs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Supervisory principles;
  • Basic accounting principles;
  • Payroll processing;
  • Tax withholding;
  • Applicable Federal and Provincial, laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes related to payroll;
  • Ceridian Dayforce preferred

Skilled in:

  • Applying complex salary and compensation calculations;
  • Leading and strengthening teams;
  • Distributing workload of staff;
  • Effectively and accurately communicating both in writing and verbally;
  • Spreadsheet and word processing software

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

  • Post-Secondary education in payroll, accounting, business or human resources an asset.
  • Experience performing the duties of the position may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Complete PCP or CPM an asset
  • Three years’ progressively responsible experience related to area of assignment, including two years of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Successful completion of a leadership training program may substitute for up to 6 months of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Ceridian Dayforce experience is preferred and will get primary consideration. Secondary consideration will be given to applicants with ADP experience.
