Job Description Position Purpose summary: The Food Bank Worker provides support to the food bank program provided by The Salvation Army Kitchener Community Church & Family Care Centre.
Accountabilities Food Bank
- Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of food for the Food Bank program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
- Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area, if needed assist with food drives.
- Ensure that all clients are treated with dignity and respect.
- Receive phone calls for food bank intake.
- Complete intake with clients.
- Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
- Assist with pick-up and delivery of food and donations from/to donors and clients using program vehicle.
- Ensure that program fliers and resource materials are stocked and available for distribution.
Health and Safety
- Adherence to all health and safety standards.
- Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained in regard to organization, appearance, maintenance and general cleanliness and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Program Assistance
- Assist with the operations of seasonal programs including Share the Warmth, Christmas Kettles and/or Christmas Toy Hampers.
Working Conditions Perform other related duties as required.
- This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week, September 15 – December 24, 2025.
- Your supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required.
- Ability to lift/move more than 25 lbs. and this job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently; working in a standing position for long periods of time.
- Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
Normal hours of work: The hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements which are Monday to Friday.

- Completion of secondary school.
- Safe Food Handlers Certification is an asset.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience And Knowledge Requirements
- Some experience working in a food bank is an asset.

- Self-motivated/disciplined.

- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
