Junior Accountant

Reporting to the Controller, the Junior Accountant position is primarily responsible for accounts receivable processing, ensuring the School receives payments for tuition, other billings and accurately records these transactions. In addition to accounts receivable, the Junior Accountant will provide support for accounts payable processing and other departmental needs.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Accounts Receivable

Process student billings for tuition, uniform shop purchases and other sundry items, including interest charges on overdue balances.

Generate and email student statements on a monthly basis.

Deposit cheques to bank account and record payments into the accounts receivable ledger; match and check payments received against billings.

Responsible for student mass billings tailored to the tuition installment options offered.

Generate monthly accounts receivable trial balance and follow up on overdue accounts.

Respond to all parent enquiries within 2 business days, via email or by phone.

Review new students registration documents and enter all pertinent information in Sage 300 and accounting server.

Ensure that parents’ legal residency status is entered in Sage 300 and updated as needed.

Reconcile total number of students in Sage 300 with Admissions department and MySchool (student database) on a monthly basis.

Maintain and update student profile in Sage 300.

Apply credits such as scholarships and awards to student accounts.

Prepare and set up banking files for monthly incoming pre-authorized payments.

Prepare supporting documentation to transfer delinquent accounts to collection agencies and provide additional information as required.

Identify improvements or areas for increased efficiency within the accounts receivable process.
Other Accounting Support
- Support accounts payable where needed, primarily with employee expense reimbursements, credit card reconciliations, cheque runs, and filing.
- Assist with bank reconciliations and other account reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly journal entries and adjustments.
- Prepare GST/PST tax returns and filings.
- Assist with the preparation and execution of the inventory count for the uniform shop
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Patience and willingness to investigate and handle issues independently
- Strong problem solving and time management skills
- Strong technical skills and advanced knowledge of Excel
- Ability to build good relationships with parents and other school departments
- Accurate data entry skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle multiple priorities
- High degree of diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality
Qualifications & Experience:
- Post-secondary qualification preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft,Google Workspace and Excel
- Knowledge of Sage 300 preferred
Employment and Application Details:
This role starts on: ASAP
Compensation: Annual salary $52,000 - $58,000
Employees of Crofton House School receive competitive compensation and support for professional, educational and leadership development. Employees are entitled to three weeks paid vacation plus 18 Admin Days (paid days off when the School is closed).
