About the role

Building the People Engine Behind a High Growth Apparel Platform

The Minery is searching for aDirector of People & Performancefor one of our distinguished clients in the GTA.

Our client is a fast growing, tech enabled apparel platform powering some of North America’s most exciting lifestyle, workwear, and direct to consumer brands. From concept to customer, they bring design, production, logistics, and distribution together under one roof.

Their work moves across industries and continents, from sports apparel and everyday workwear to pieces that have appeared in Paris Fashion Week.

With approximately 200 employees across Canada and the United States and continued growth ahead, the organization is ready to elevate its people strategy to match the scale and complexity of the business.

They are seeking aDirector of People & Performanceto architect, lead, and operationalize the next evolution of HR across the organization.

This is a build and own opportunity for a confident, hands on HR leader who is equally comfortable setting strategy and rolling up their sleeves to execute. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will partner with senior leaders to shape how the organization hires, develops, evaluates, protects, and grows its people across sales, creative, production, warehouse, shipping, and corporate environments.

This role will also lead and support an HR Business Partner based in the United States.

What You Will Lead

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Strategy

Recruitment is mission critical.

  • Design and implement a scalable recruiting engine that operates efficiently and independently.
  • Develop and execute cross border talent strategies across Canada and the United States.
  • Implement structured hiring processes, interview frameworks, and leadership accountability.
  • Align workforce planning with aggressive growth targets.
  • Raise the quality bar on every hire.

Performance & Accountability

  • Establish and own the performance philosophy and framework across the organization.
  • Implement structured review cycles and compensation evaluation cadence.
  • Drive consistent feedback rhythms across departments.
  • Equip leaders to address performance concerns early, clearly, and consistently.
  • Develop structured, compliant performance improvement processes.
  • Ensure every employee understands expectations, ownership, and growth trajectory.

Organizational Design & Leadership Partnership

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO on organizational growth and team effectiveness.
  • Collaborate internally to review, evolve, and support the organizational structure required to scale.
  • Facilitate quarterly performance and planning sessions.
  • Coach department heads on people strategy and leadership effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the US based HR Business Partner.

Compliance, Risk & Health and Safety

Own compliance across a multi environment operation.

  • Oversee HR compliance across Canada and the United States, including employment standards, policy development, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and manage Health and Safety programs across production, warehouse, shipping, and office environments.
  • Ensure workplace safety programs, documentation, training, and reporting meet provincial, federal, and US standards.
  • Partner with operations leaders to proactively mitigate risk and strengthen workplace safety culture.
  • Oversee investigations, documentation, and resolution of employee relations matters.
  • Maintain strong partnership with Payroll and Finance to ensure accuracy, compliance, and governance.

  • Own and elevate the employee experience across both in office and remote teams.
  • Lead company wide cultural initiatives including team events, celebrations, and years of service recognition programs.
  • Create structure and consistency that strengthens connection across departments, locations, and time zones.
  • Ensure virtual and remote team members feel as connected, supported, and engaged as employees working in the office.
  • Develop programs that reinforce a high-performance culture while maintaining a strong sense of team.

HR Operations & Infrastructure

  • Optimize and fully leverage HRIS systems.
  • Build scalable onboarding, documentation, and policy infrastructure.
  • Drive disciplined follow through on HR initiatives.
  • Establish reporting and HR metrics that support data driven decision making.

What You Bring

You combine strategic thinking with operational depth. You build structure. You protect the business. You raise standards.

To build and lead at this level, you will bring:

  • 7 plus years of progressive HR leadership experience.
  • Experience supporting both Canadian and US workforces.
  • Strong background in talent acquisition, performance management, and organizational design.
  • Hands on experience managing Health and Safety in production or warehouse environments.
  • Deep knowledge of employment standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to build systems and infrastructure from the ground up.
  • Experience leading or mentoring HR professionals.
  • Comfort operating in fast paced, founder led environments.
  • Confident presence with senior leadership.
  • Execution oriented mindset with strong follow through.
  • Willingness to be in office at least 3 days per week, with quarterly travel to the United States.

Compensation

Expected salary range: $110,000 – $135,000 CAD

Final compensation will reflect cross border HR leadership experience, Health and Safety expertise, and demonstrated ability to build and scale HR functions in high growth environments.
