Defect Triage Manager (Large Financial Services Transformation Program)
About the role
Role Overview The Defect Triage Manager is responsible for coordinating and governing the defect management process across a large, multi-stream financial services testing program. Reporting to the Test Director as part of the central Testing Office, the role ensures defects are effectively triaged, prioritized, and resolved across concurrent testing workstreams, environments, and releases.
The Defect Triage Manager facilitates structured triage with workstream Test Managers, delivery teams, and client stakeholders, ensuring clear prioritization, defect data quality, and rapid root cause identification. The role also provides program-level visibility into defect trends, risks, and resolution progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate regular defect triage meetings with workstream Test Managers, analysts, developers, client and other key stakeholders.
- Refine and oversee the program defect management process, including severity definitions, triage procedures, and escalation protocols.
- Review and prioritize defects across multiple concurrent testing workstreams, ensuring alignment with release and testing priorities.
- Conduct cross-defect analysis to detect patterns, recurring issues, and underlying system weaknesses.
- Coordinate root cause analysis with analysts, developers, testing and environment teams to ensure issues are accurately diagnosed.
- Ensure high-quality defect records in Jira, including completeness of reproduction steps, evidence, severity, ownership, and resolution tracking.
- Maintain defect dashboards and reporting, providing clear visibility to program leadership on defect status, trends, and risks.
- Develop and maintain defect burndown models and projections to track resolution progress and support release readiness decisions.
- Monitor defect aging, backlog growth, and resolution velocity, identifying risks to testing timelines.
- Drive timely assignment and resolution of defects across delivery teams.
- Escalate high-impact or systemic issues to the Test Director and program leadership when required.
Key Skills / Experience
- Experience managing defect triage for large, complex technology or financial services programs.
- Strong analytical ability to identify defect patterns, root causes, and systemic issues.
- Expertise with Jira or similar defect tracking tools
- Experience developing defect metrics, dashboards, and burndown forecasting models.
- Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills across testing, development, and client teams.
