Maintenance Supervisor
About the role
Role Overview The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading daily mechanical and/or electrical maintenance activities within a pulp mill environment. This role ensures equipment reliability, safe work execution, regulatory compliance, and effective coordination between maintenance, operations, and engineering teams in a high-hazard, continuous-process setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise unionized and/or non-union maintenance trades (millwrights, electricians, instrumentation technicians)
- Plan, schedule, and execute preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities
- Coordinate maintenance work with production to minimize downtime and optimize asset reliability
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafe / OH&S, environmental, and company safety standards
- Lead lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and hazard assessments
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Support major outages, shutdowns, and turnaround maintenance
- Maintain CMMS records (work orders, PMs, parts usage, labour tracking)
- Manage contractors and vendors during maintenance projects
- Participate in root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support capital projects, equipment installations, and upgrades
- Coach, mentor, and develop maintenance team members
Required Qualifications
- Red Seal Journeyperson (Millwright, Electrician, or Industrial Mechanic) or equivalent technical background
- 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in pulp & paper, sawmill, mining, chemical, or heavy manufacturing
- 2+ years of supervisory or lead-hand experience in a maintenance environment
- Strong working knowledge of rotating equipment, pumps, conveyors, boilers, and process systems
- Experience working in a unionized environment preferred
- Proficiency with CMMS systems (SAP, Maximo, JD Edwards, etc.)
- Strong safety leadership and regulatory knowledge
