Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Operations, the Superintendent, Mine Engineering will provide a safety leadership towards a culture of safety and health of all employees working in and or with the Mine Engineering Department. You will lead all engineering functions and ensure that service and operating guidelines are followed; along with creating, designing, and developing excellence and best practices regarding mining engineering processes, procedures, and practices. You will provide strategic leadership regarding the company’s SHEMS system as it applies to the Mine Engineering Department.

The Day-To-Day:

  • Maintain and update ore reserves.
  • Maintain ventilation and rock mechanic programs.
  • Managing activities related to programs, systems, and procedures in mine design.
  • Analyzing data and providing technical documentation to support decision-making.
  • Contributing to the preparation of the annual budget and other long-term strategies.
  • Create professional short- and long-range strategic planning strategies and provide execution guidance to mining processes.
  • Engage and interact with business partners across the organization to identify and implement improvement and operational excellence opportunities.
  • Using operational excellence resources and methodologies, maintain a high standard of quality in all work.
  • Create and manage reports on performance and devise strategies and take any necessary actions to rectify deficiencies.
  • Strategically lead and develop subordinates to have a suitably skilled, qualified and continuously improving workforce.
  • Lead all matters relating to personnel recruitment, development, and discipline.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the department.

Is This You?

  • A degree from a recognized university in mining engineering.
  • Minimum 10-years overall underground experience including a minimum of 5 years of management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of underground mining.
  • Excellent interpersonal/relationship skills; able to work and communicate with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization, written and oral.
  • High attention to detail, strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize duties and solve problems.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with the utmost professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must possess a security screening document or equivalent document as defined byThe Mines Regulations, 2018. The successful candidate will be required to maintain their security screening document or equivalent document throughout their employment at their own expense and will be required to provide confirmation of same and advise the employer of any changes to, revocation of or suspension of their security screening document during the term of their employment.
