Business Development Manager – Solar Energy

Location: Calgary, AB (with travel across Canada)

Firefly Solar, a leading provider of solar energy solutions across Canada, is looking for

an experienced Business Development Manager to drive the growth of our commercial solar

division. This is an opportunity for a proven B2B sales professional with deep solar

industry knowledge to shape the future of clean energy while contributing to Firefly’s

mission of delivering reliable, sustainable power solutions.

About the Role

We are seeking a true business development professional with expertise in the solar industry

who can generate, manage, and close commercial opportunities. In this role, you will

prospect and cultivate leads, secure commercial and industrial clients, and guide projects

from initial proposal to installation. You will leverage your understanding of solar

technology, financial modeling, and available grants and incentives to build strong business

cases and close deals. In addition, you will play a critical role in managing the tendering

process for major projects and public bids.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategies to identify, pursue, and close commercial solar projects.

  • Prospect, qualify, and nurture leads through to signed contracts.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers in commercial, industrial, and

public sectors.

  • Create compelling proposals and financial models that highlight the value of solar

solutions, incorporating available grants and government programs.

  • Manage the full sales cycle, from early engagement to project handover, ensuring a

seamless transition to the project delivery team.

  • Lead or support the preparation of bids and responses to RFPs for major projects.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to align client needs with technical and operational

capabilities.

  • Stay informed on industry trends, technologies, and incentive programs to maintain a

competitive edge.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in B2B business development, ideally within the renewable energy

or solar sector.

  • Strong understanding of solar PV technology, financial modelling, and project financing

tools.

  • Demonstrated experience closing large commercial or industrial deals and managing complex

sales cycles.

  • Familiarity with public tendering and RFP processes.

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to generate and drive new business opportunities.
