About the role

Woolwich Community Health Centre (WCHC) requires a Lab Technician. The Lab Technician is responsible for the safe, accurate, and professional collection of blood and other specimens for diagnostic testing. The role supports patient care while complying with Ontario Ministry of Health regulations, PHIPA, and laboratory quality standards. The Phlebotomist works collaboratively with with the Primary Care team to ensure high-quality patient service.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory program

  • Graduation from a CSMLS-accredited or employer-recognized program preferred

  • Minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience preferred

  • Strong knowledge of Ontario healthcare and laboratory standards

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team

  • Proficiency with laboratory and electronic medical record systems

  • Proof of immunization, TB testing, and vulnerable sector screening as required

  • Current BLS (CPR Level HCP) certification.

  • Ability to work potential evenings as required by the program.

  • Ability to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the CHC.

  • Ability to support and demonstrate Community Health Centre values.

Position Duties:

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection for patients of all ages

  • Confirm patient identity using two identifiers in accordance with Ontario standards

  • Accurately label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis

  • Explain procedures clearly and provide patient reassurance

  • Follow infection prevention and control (IPAC) policies and proper PPE use

  • Maintain specimen integrity during handling, storage, and transport

  • Document collections accurately in laboratory information systems (LIS/EMR)

  • Manage adverse reactions (e.g., fainting) according to established protocols

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

  • Uphold patient confidentiality in compliance with PHIPA

  • Support clerical and administrative tasks as required

  • Maintain competence through professional development activities and training.
