Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Transportation Planner to join our growing transportation team. We are actively working to make communities safer and more sustainable by expanding our team with diverse skill sets. Such skills include transportation planning and policy review and analysis, transportation data analysis, clear technical and policy writing, an awareness of key planning frameworks, ability to lead to public and stakeholder consultation, and project management.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration skills, be eager to learn, and enjoy working in a fast-paced consulting environment. Strong writing, presentation, and public speaking skills will be of benefit in this position. You will play an important role in leading projects, conducting analysis, preparing documentation, reporting and presenting findings. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with a wide variety of professionals including active transportation, transit, goods movement, placemaking, safety, traffic engineering, modelling, etc.

Role accountabilities:

In this role, you will take the lead on transportation planning projects, guiding efforts through policy and planning reviews, in-depth transportation data analysis, and comprehensive network analyses. You will be responsible for authoring a range of reports, such as background context documents, needs assessments, network development reports, and consultation summaries, ensuring clarity and actionable insights for clients and stakeholders.

You will also play a pivotal role in developing broader visioning plans and policies, including transportation master plans, safety strategies, and Complete Streets initiatives. Your expertise will be crucial in directing consultation efforts—preparing presentations and materials for meetings, guiding consultation specialists on project support, and representing both the project team and client in public and stakeholder forums.

As a Transportation Planner, you will lead client and stakeholder meetings, ensuring that objectives are clearly understood and met, and that accurate and comprehensive meeting minutes are maintained. You will stay at the forefront of industry and municipal best practices, researching topics such as goods movement, active transportation, emerging technologies, road user safety, and other community-building initiatives. In addition, you will contribute to and lead the preparation of compelling proposals, supporting the continued growth and impact of the Mobility Advisory team. Other related duties may be assigned as needed to support project and team success.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • University degree in urban/regional planning, civil engineering, or related field
  • Eligibility to become a Registered Professional Planner or a Professional Engineer is an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access, ArcGIS, or Adobe Illustrator an asset
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with a commitment to excellence and high-quality work
  • Proven technical writing skills in English
  • A proven ability to create visually attractive documents, presentations, and graphics or visuals is an asset
  • Ability to be flexible and collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team, while maintaining quality work within a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to regularly attend client and public meetings in person in the Greater Vancouver Area and beyond
  • Demonstrated collaborative attitude in working with members of our diverse team
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $140,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
