SWIM INSTRUCTOR

Casual - $22.38/ hour - $27.08/ hour

We are currently recruiting for casual Instructor positions at our Leduc Recreation Centre.

What is this Opportunity?

Reporting to the Aquatic Program Coordinator or Supervisor on duty, this position is responsible for providing a safe, enjoyable aquatic experience for facility users. This is achieved through active safety supervision, incident prevention, and emergency response while providing high-quality instruction for a wide variety of aquatic programs. What will you do?

  • Delivering swimming lessons and aquatic programs with exceptional customer service cultivating a positive experience for all participants
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy environment, and organizing, setting up and cleaning equipment at your designated teaching area; as well as ensuring that all program supplies and equipment are readily available when delivering lessons
  • Developing and delivering program content tailored to participants with diverse abilities, including creating lesson plans, making modifications, and providing instructional materials specific to the program
  • Keeping a record of participant progress and performance while delivering swimming lessons evaluations
  • Prevent injuries by helping the programs and lifeguard team providing public education, enforcing safety rules and regulations, and recognizing and responding appropriately in the event of an emergency
  • Recognize and respond to incidents requiring first aid or other safety-related concerns
  • Maintain a positive attitude and always portray a professional image when interacting with the public

What do you need to succeed?

  • At least 16 years of age
  • A positive and energetic personality who is hard-working and team-oriented
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment by multi-tasking and efficiently prioritizing workload
  • A passion for working with kids and helping our patrons live a healthy lifestyle
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and skill development, including the ability to complete monthly fitness and knowledge skills tests, attend all required training and in-service sessions, and complete additional courses or certifications as required

Certifications:

  • Bronze Cross
  • LS Swim Instructor
  • Intermediate First Aid with CPR C
  • Certifications Considered an Asset: Lifesaving Instructor, Oxygen Administration

Minimum Shift Availability:

  • Must commit to at least one weekday - daytime and/or evening shift - per season

We offer:

  • School and afternoon swimming lessons, daytime Mon-Thu – 6 hours per week

  • Evening swimming lessons, Mon – Fri – 3 hours per week

  • Saturday swimming lessons, morning – 3.5 hours per week

  • Sunday swimming lessons, morning and evening – 2.5 to 3.5 hours per week

The number of hours of work per week may vary based on operational needs and cannot always be projected

  • Must be flexible to attend training sessions outside of typical work week hours, as required
