We're hiring a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) for an exciting opportunity with a leading global technology company.
We're looking for candidates with hands-on experience in Desktop Application Testing who are passionate about software quality, test automation, and Windows desktop installation technologies.
Position Details Job Title: Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) Location: Vancouver, BC Employment Type: T4 Contract Hourly Rate: CAD 40–45/hour Note: This opportunity is open only for candidates who can work on a T4 contract. Incorporated and C2C arrangements are not available.
Role Overview This role focuses on Desktop Application Testing for Windows-based installer solutions. You'll help ensure the quality, reliability, and stability of installation workflows by validating installer functionality, developing automation, investigating issues, and collaborating with engineering teams to deliver high-quality software releases.
Key Responsibilities Participate in requirements analysis, design reviews, test planning, execution, defect tracking, and risk assessment. Design, develop, and maintain automated test cases and tools for installer-related scenarios. Validate installation workflows, including installation, upgrade, patching, repair, rollback, uninstallation, and version compatibility. Test installer behavior across different Windows environments, system configurations, user permissions, and machine states. Reproduce customer-reported and internal issues and collaborate with developers to improve product quality. Identify quality gaps and improve testing efficiency through automation and process improvements. Work closely with software developers and global engineering teams to deliver high-quality software.
Required Skills Experience as an SDET, QA Engineer, or Software Test Engineer. Hands-on experience with Desktop Application Testing. Good understanding of test design, defect lifecycle, root cause analysis, and quality risk assessment. Experience with test automation and scripting using Python, Groovy, or Shell. Familiarity with test automation concepts. Strong understanding of Windows OS fundamentals, including file systems, registry, services, processes, and permissions. Knowledge of desktop software installation technologies and installation lifecycle scenarios. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Preferred Skills Experience testing desktop applications or Windows installer packages. Knowledge of MSI, bootstrapper-based installers, silent installation, and dependency validation. Familiarity with Windows diagnostics and troubleshooting tools for deployment issues. Experience with Jenkins or other Continuous Integration systems. Knowledge of the Microsoft .NET platform is a plus.
