Supervisor -Recreation Programs

Full-time term – July 10, 2026 or return of incumbent

We are currently seeking a full-time term Supervisor -Recreation Programs to join our Community Services team. The Supervisor-Recreation Programs is responsible for leading a team of unionized staff to achieve excellence in customer service and programming at the Comox Valley Regional District’s Sports and Aquatic Centres. Reporting to the Aquatic Centre Coordinator, and working closely with the Sports Centre Coordinator, the primary responsibilities of this role include:

Assisting the Coordinators in the planning and delivery of quality recreation programs and special events to a wide variety of users;

Scheduling, training, mentoring and providing day-to-day direction to program staff;

Developing, promoting, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs to ensure exceptional customer service is provided in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere;

Supporting the Coordinators in the promotion and implementation of recreation programs and events including the production of print materials;

Ensuring a safe and clean environment for facility patrons and staff;

Coordinating and evaluating program delivery and ensuring quality control of programs;

Planning and delivering in-service training to program staff;

Providing instruction for leadership programs, leading fitness and wellness classes and performing lifeguard/instructor duties as required;

On deck supervision of lifeguard and instructors to ensure quality and consistency in program delivery.

Our ideal candidate is: A proven leader who promotes teamwork and cooperation with a minimum of three years of directly related experience in a similar capacity overseeing daily activities of unionized staff;

Experienced in scheduling, training, mentoring, and directing the work of others with related supervisory skills training;

A respectful communicator with a professional, courteous approach to customer service and advanced conflict resolution skills;

Able to effectively balance competing priorities in a busy, fast-paced environment;

Educated at the post-secondary level with a certificate or diploma in a related field (ie. leisure development) and the following certifications: WSIT, NL, NL Instructor/Examiner, LSI, First Aid Instructor, Aquasize Instructor, Adaptive Aquatics (or equivalent), and WHMIS;

An engaging and encouraging instructor able to maintain the level of personal fitness required to perform all duties;

An advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite (MS word, Excel, Publisher and Outlook). Strong utilization skills with Adobe Acrobat, Explorer, web utilization skills and SharePoint applications and other applications related to the work such as the facility registration system;

Proficient in the creation of brochures, posters, flyers and other publications;

Detail oriented and able to keep accurate and complete records;

Safety conscious and able to effectively respond to emergency situations when required;

Flexible in working a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

**Additional preferred qualifications include:**current LSI Trainer certification and current First Aid Instructor certification.

The successful candidate must provide current criminal record clearance, including a vulnerable sector check, in accordance with CVRD policy.
