About the role
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Environmental Health and Safety Officer provides technical expertise to organize, deliver, and administer environmental health and safety (EHS) programs and training that support a safe and inclusive campus community, and ensures compliance with applicable occupational health and safety requirements.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of construction methods, practices, regulations, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety methods, practices, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of building mechanical systems
- Knowledge of governing legislation, by-laws, and regulations such as fire code, building code, occupational health and safety
- Knowledge of office as well as the broader university academic units, departments, and divisions would be an asset
- Knowledge of emergency response protocols and procedures, including hazardous materials.
- Working knowledge of office productivity software and databases, discipline-specific software, enterprise software such as banner, technology devices and internet competency
- Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity in a business context
Education and Experience:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
- Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering, or a diploma in occupational health and safety
- Professional designations/certifications for the area of oversight (CRSP, CRST, CIH, NCSO or CHSC) considered an asset
- Minimum of three years of previous experience in occupational health and safety
