About the role
The Junior High Teacher is responsible for teaching and providing support to students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. The Teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
- Bachelor of Education - Secondary
- University education in English Language Arts
- OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching a minimum of 50% English Language Arts within the last seven (7) years with positive performance appraisals and/or references

Excellent communication (written and oral and electronic), problem solving and interpersonal skills;

Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams to support early intervention strategies, coordination of services, problem solving and program planning;

Proven ability to work as a contributing member of school program planning and multidisciplinary teams;

Ability to apply knowledge, experience and commitment in the areas of culturally responsive pedagogy;
-
Current knowledge of developmental trauma, the impact on learning, communication and social engagement throughout the lifespan;
-
An interest and willingness to engage in continuing education and professional development;
-
Ability to apply training and experience to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and teaching strategies based on the individual needs of students;
-
Ability to employ non-violent crisis intervention techniques;
-
Ability to demonstrate teaching strategies and coach school staff as needed;
-
Ability to maintain and promote confidentiality as the norm;

Experience in planning and developing training and professional learning opportunities related to students with behaviours of concern;

Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.

Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism.

Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
