We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and experienced leader with vision, initiative, and strategic thinking to join the Lakeridge Health Team as Director, Laboratory Medicine.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Health System Executive, Clinical Services, the Director of Laboratory Medicine partners with the Chief and Medical Director to provide strategic, operational, and administrative leadership for one of Ontario's largest community hospital laboratories. The Director is responsible for ensuring high-quality, timely, and reliable diagnostic services across multiple specialties, including biochemistry, microbiology, haematology, blood transfusion, virology, and pathology.

The Director fosters a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with Accreditation Canada standards and maintaining laboratory accreditation through IQMH in alignment with ISO 15189. The role is instrumental in advancing innovation, digital pathology, automation, and point-of-care testing, while building strong partnerships with clinicians, staff and regional health system partners to enhance patient care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

" Translate corporate strategic directions and objectives into program-specific goals, ensuring alignment with best practice standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation frameworks.
" Provide strategic and operational leadership for all laboratory services, working closely with the Chief and Medical Director, to ensure oversight of quality assurance, quality control, and continuous improvement.
" Develop the program strategic human resources plan including short and long term needs and succession planning and promote the development of leadership skills and capabilities within the program area.
" Develop and recommend the annual operating and capital budget for the program, review monthly financial and statistical reports and determine the appropriate actions, and accountability for the overall allocation and efficient utilization of clinical resources.
" Promote accountability for financial stewardship, ensuring effective use of resources and identification of efficiency opportunities.
" Lead acquisition, validation, and implementation of new laboratory equipment and technologies, including digital pathology and automation initiatives.
" Foster a collaborative and inclusive workplace that promotes staff development, safety, and engagement.
" Build and sustain partnerships with regional and community partners, including those within the Central East, Ontario Health East and beyond.

QUALIFICATIONS:

" Master's degree in a related discipline.
" Certificate of registration and/or professional license in good standing from a healthcare regulatory college.

" More than 10 years of progressive leadership experience in complex health systems, with direct experience leading laboratory services strongly preferred.
" Significant experience in the successful implementation, monitoring and evaluation of clinical initiatives preferably within a multi-site hospital system
" Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory accreditation standards, including IQMH/ISO 15189, regulatory frameworks, and quality assurance programs.
" Proven experience in strategic and capital planning, including acquisition and implementation of laboratory instrumentation and digital technologies.
" Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship management skills with the ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholders.
" Strong track record of leading teams through change, fostering collaboration, and advancing continuous improvement.
